today announced an enhanced Media-Link specification for directly
connecting high performance processors and peripherals with no glue logic.
The enhanced Media-Link builds on Spectrum's initial specification,
introduced in 1991. It provides designers with a high bandwidth, zero
overhead communication channel for a variety of digital signal processing
applications, such as advanced image, desktop array processing and
multi-media systems.

Originally tailored for the 386 and the TMS320C30 processors, the
Media-Link specification has been enhanced to facilitate the connection of
numerous popular chips including M680x0, 80x86, 80960, 80860, R3000,
SPARC, TMS320Cxx, DSP5600x, DSP9600x, ADSP-21020, ADSP-2101, ADSP-2100 and
the DSP32C. Programmable processor interface logic is provided within the
Media-Link

Controller (MLC) chip to account for the various control and timing
requirements of the different processor families.

Spectrum last year introduced its DSP/PC, based on its Media-Link
technology. The DSP/PC is a passive backplane PC/AT motherboard offering
host PC and DSP capabilities on a single card. The single chip Media-Link
interconnects the Intel 386 and the TMS320C31 with zero glue logic. The
DSP/PC also includes a Media-Link interface for a high speed network
connection with other Media-Link compatible boards.

The enhanced Media-Link specification is a major improvement in
conventional interconnection technologies such as the ISA bus, STD bus,
and VMEbus. The Media-Link no glue logic concept is an innovative standard
approach to processor-to-processor and processor-to-peripheral high speed
communication. The speed transfer rate bandwidth of the MLC has also been
significantly improved from 66 Mbytes/sec to 100 Mbytes/sec.

Media-Link has already been adopted by a leader in the imaging market,
Imagraph Corporation. "The Media-Link interconnector scheme is ideally
suited for our demanding imaging applications and will be incorporated in
our new family of products", said Mr. Joseph Plonski, V.P. of Sales &
Marketing for Imagraph Corporation, which is based in Chelmsford, MA.

Spectrum also introduced two new Media-Link boards currently under
development: a Quad TMS320C3 1 Array Processor and a Media-Link Video
Board (MLVB).

QC31 Array Processor

The QC31 Array Processor is a powerful, low-cost array processing plug-in
board capable of providing 160 Mflop peak throughput. Based on the 40 MHz
TMS320C31 floating point processor, the QC31 contains four independent
processing elements. Each processing element contains up to 512K x 32 zero
wait state memory and a Media-Link interface to the other three processing
elements. One of the processing elements is augmented with Input/Output
capabilities for high-speed data transfer with the ISA interface or
DSP-Link providing a gateway to Spectrum's full line of analog and digital
peripheral cards. A Media-Link interface is also provided to interconnect
with other Media-Link compatible boards.

The QC31 is designed for desktop array processing applications such as
simulation, modeling, image processing and radar.

MLVB

The MLVB is a high performance video acquisition board for storing,
processing and outputting video images. The MLVB contains a TMS34020
graphics processor, a TMS320C31 digital signal processor, a Video buffer
memory and a video interface. The video interface contains three 8-bit
analog to digital converters for digitizing RGB video and three 8-bit
digitized analog converters compatible with NTSC and PAL formats. An 8-bit
overlay is also provided.

The TMS320C31 DSP provides 40 Mflops of processing capabilities for
real-time or near realtime processing of incoming frames. A Media-Link
interface is provided to increase the processing capabilities using the
C31 board.

The Media-Link Controller --in 176 pin plastic quad flat package, will be
available in the fourth quarter of 1992. The DSP/PC will be available in
third quarter at a base price of US$ 3,995 in single quantities.

The Media-Link Technology, DSP/PC, QC31 and MLVB were developed by Spectrum
Signal Processing of Burnaby, B.C., Canada. Spectrum is a leading
