Central Point Launches All-out Attack on Computer Viruses With Products,
Services and Technologies for the PC Enterprise

Continuous Virus Management Initiative Combines Products, Technologies and
Support Services to Protect NetWare Networks

BEAVERTON, Ore.--Oct. 12, 1992--Central Point Software, Inc., a leader in
the PC and Macintosh utilities market, today introduced a sweeping series
of products, technologies and support services aimed at eliminating
computer viruses. Announced today, Continuous Virus Management, Central
Point's enterprise-wide virus protection strategy, includes products,
services and technologies that provide scalable, transparent and centrally
managed virus protection.

To provide this comprehensive level of support for virus protection,
Central Point also launched a new group, Network and Security Products,
whose primary mission is to provide products and solutions for network
administrators and MIS managers. This new group builds on Central Point's
experience and leadership in the PC utilities market and will extend
Central Point's product family to include network-wide utilities for
virus, storage and security management.

"Virus protection is now mandatory for networked computing environments,"
said Srivats Sampath, director of product marketing, Network and Security
Products at Central Point. "Networks are high-risk virus sites. By
delivering anti-virus products and services that reach across desktop
platforms and multiple-server networks, Central Point is the first to
provide integrated virus prevention and protection that is scalable,
transparent and centrally managed for the entire PC enterprise."

Anti-Virus Products for the PC Enterprise

The new group's first move was to introduce today a comprehensive set of
anti-virus products and services, including protection for Novell
networks--which is critically needed for the PC enterprise. Today's
product announcements are as follows:

** Central Point Anti-Virus for NetWare ($1,199). This new anti-virus NLM
provides integrated virus protection for the PC enterprise. Central Point
Anti-Virus for NetWare protects Novell NetWare networks, with advanced
virus protection for servers and desktops, and centralized administration
and reporting of virus activities. Central Point Anti-Virus for NetWare
includes a five-user license of Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS and
Central Point Anti-Virus for Macintosh. Additional client licenses may be
purchased singly or in sets.

** Central Point Anti-Virus Version 1.4 for DOS ($129). This latest version
of Central Point' s DOS-based virus protection program can detect and
eradicate more than 1,300 PC viruses. Coming just three months after the
last revision, Version 1.4 combats viruses developed by the Virus Creation
Laboratory, a module similar to a software development kit that supports
the development of viruses. Version 1.4 also features new virus scan
scheduling capabilities, centralized installation on multiple workstations
from a single administration station, support for CentralTalk protocol for
communicating virus activities to NetWare servers, and user interface
refinements.

** Central Point Anti-Virus for the Macintosh ($69.95). Identical to the
powerful anti-virus program found in Central Point's critically acclaimed
MacTools 2.0, this product is easy to use and has potent detection and
eradication capability. Like all members of the Central Point Anti-Virus
product family, Central Point Anti-Virus for the Macintosh is very easy to
update, and is supported by a full subscription service.

** Central Point Anti-Virus Scan-Only System (CPAV-SOS), distributed to
individuals free of charge. To help individuals defend against the virus
scourge, Central Point is widely distributing this scan-only utility free
of charge through the Central Point BBS, and from CompuServe for
downloading, as well as from other major bulletin board services. This new
offering scans DOS files to determine if they are infected, and alerts the
user if a virus is found. CPAV-SOS uses the same powerful virus scanning
engine as Central Point Anti-Virus for DOS.

Key Integrating Technologies

Central Point also announced two new technologies, CentralTalk and
CentraLAlert, that have been incorporated into the NetWare and DOS
anti-virus products. CentralTalk is a utility-to-utility communications
protocol to support automatic cross-platform communications. The new
Central Point Anti-Virus for NetWare and upgraded anti-virus for DOS
products use CentralTalk to facilitate the process of setting up
enterprise-wide virus protection and monitoring. CentralAlert, Central
Point's active notification program built on CentralTalk, provides
configurable alerts via pagers, MHS e-mail and NetWare broadcasts.

Expanded Support Services Combat New Viruses as They Surface

In addition to new anti-virus products, Central Point announced an
expansion of its Virus Protection Services Plan, which has been in place
for more than a year, supplying ongoing support and rapid updating for new
viruses as they are discovered. Teaming comprehensive anti-virus products
with rapid support for newly discovered viruses enables Central Point to
supply a complete solution for virus management in the PC enterprise.

Central Point's support services cover five areas:

  -- Telephone support
  -- Virus protection updates
  -- Virus information
  -- Training and education
  -- Consulting services

The expanded services that were announced today add programs tailored for
corporate and networked environments, including full NetWare anti-virus
support services. Highlights are:

** 24 hour, seven-day-a-week technical telephone support by certified
NetWare engineers (CNEs).

** A premium subscription service that provides product upgrades for
Central Point Anti-Virus for NetWare, as well as the Central Point desktop
anti-virus packages, combined with monthly virus signature updates.

** Expanded support for on-site corporate training about safe computing.

** A quick-response "virus eradication team" (VET), a team of anti-virus
experts poised for dispatch within 24 hours to any problem site in the
U.S.
