Central Point Launches Aggressive Assault on Macintosh Viruses With New
Anti-Virus Product

BEAVERTON, Ore.--Oct. 12, 1992--Central Point Software Inc. today announced
Central Point Anti-Virus for the Macintosh, a stand-alone version of the
utility included in the company's critically acclaimed MacTools 2.0. The
easy-to-use, industrial-strength product is aggressively priced and fully
supported by an enhanced suite of services.

"In addition to ease of use, we have found that the main concerns of
Macintosh anti-virus customers are 'how much does it cost,' and 'how will
it be supported with updates'," said Tom Swinford, product manager of the
Macintosh product line at Central Point. "Central Point Anti-Virus for
Macintosh addresses all these issues with the same easy interface as
MacTools 2.0, a low price point of $69.95, and an extensive suite of
support programs customized to fit individual needs."

Like all members of Central Point's anti-virus product family, Anti-Virus
for Macintosh is very easy to update. When a new virus signature becomes
available, Central Point's anti-virus customers can become aware of a new
virus in the following ways:

* Free postcard notification of new signatures.
* Bulletin Board Service (BBS) postings of signatures on
Central Point's BBS, CompuServe, AppleLink, InterNet and
  America Online.
* Single signature update disks for $12 plus shipping.
* Annual subscription service for $49.95.
* 24-hour anti-virus hotline for new update information.
* 24-hour FaxBack service for new signatures.
* Free technical support.

"With other products, adding anti-virus to a network involves taking a
separate disk to each machine or trusting users to install the utility on
their own," added Swinford. "Central Point Anti-Virus for Macintosh makes
network installation and upgrading anti-virus software an easy, one-step
process for the administrator, and transparent for the users."

More specific benefits about the product include:

** Central Point Anti-Virus for the Macintosh continuously protects against
known and unknown viruses. In addition, the product also detects and
removes viruses from infected files and disks. Its virus protection and
cleaning mechanisms are identical to those in Central Point MacTools 2.0.

** Central Point Anti-Virus for the Macintosh is highly configurable. For
example, virus scanning can occur at system startup, shutdown or floppy
disk insertion. In addition, the program offers several choices for
detection, cleaning and removal. All options can be password protected for
individual and network security.

** For corporate networked environments, Central Point Anti-Virus for the
Macintosh supports easy installation and configuration. The administrator
can update anti-virus capabilities network-wide, by simply dropping a new
signature file into a folder on a server.
