SCHOLASTIC RELEASES 1993 EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CATALOG

The leading publisher of educational software introduces new Macintosh and
videodisc products, and responds to the needs of bilingual classrooms.

New York, NY--September 30, 1992--Scholastic Inc. today announced that its
1993 Educational Technology Catalog is now available free to educators
upon request. With more than 125 products, The Educational Technology
Catalog features broad selections of award-winning software for Macintosh,
Apple II, and MS-DOS computers alike. Important additions to the catalog
include 21 new videodisc and Macintosh products and enhanced versions of
two popular programs, which now offer Spanish-language operation--a timely
response to the growing needs of America's multicultural population.

"We've redesigned the Educational Technology Catalog from the ground up, to
make it as easy as possible for educators to select and purchase
high-quality software for their classrooms," said Peter Kelman, Vice
President and Publisher of Scholastic Software. The new catalog gives
teachers a broad array of purchasing options, including additional disks,
hard disk licenses, and cost-effective site licenses. Scholastic also
offers the District Membership Plan, which allows school districts to
purchase in volume at a significant savings. To help teachers integrate
technology into their classrooms, Scholastic also maintains a network of
Regional Coordinators of Educational Technology, who provide advice and
training support for educators at state, district, and local levels.

In science, the 1993 catalog offers rich new ground to explore. To make the
ground-breaking Interactive NOVA videodisc series even more accessible,
Scholastic has introduced extensive, interactive, teaching guides that
allow teachers to call upon an immense collection of full-motion video and
still photography with an easy-to-use, bar-code reader.

The 1993 catalog also features Point of View 2.0, a ground-breaking program
that uses the power of multimedia to help children explore history. This
latest version of Point of View is easier to use than ever before, with a
redesigned graphic interface and menu-based access to vast databanks of
historical information. Scholastic also offers four new videodiscs
designed to link with Point of View -- each focused on a different period
or subject in American history. All of these new videodiscs can be used in
conjunction with Point of View in Level III format, or as Level I
standalone videodiscs.

For classroom publishing, Scholastic has enhanced SuperPrint for the
Macintosh to help meet the needs of multicultural classrooms. The new
Bilingual/Spanish edition of SuperPrint for the Macintosh has every menu,
dialog box, and help screen in Spanish. It also has a menu option that
allows students and teachers to switch easily between English and Spanish,
along with an additional teaching guide filled with ideas for bilingual
classrooms.

The catalog offers innovative "Network Curriculum Centers" which include a
variety of related software programs at savings of up to 20% off
standalone prices. The Scholastic Network Math Center, for instance,
combines four programs from the popular Math Shop series, together with an
activity book filled with ideas for using the software in the classroom.
Scholastic also has Network Curriculum Centers for writing and classroom
publishing. All three are compatible with AppleTalk,
Novell/ICLAS/SchoolMate, Corvus/Velan, and Digicard.
