Birth of the Universal Command Language

Millions or billions of dollars and countless manhours have been spent
converting from one computer system to another over the last few decades.
Even worse is the proliferation of menuing or windowing systems
which require major design changes to transfer from one computer to
another.

Computer systems such as MVS, TSO, OS/2, Unix and so on require
management to commit scarce resources for training computer
personel to use different machines or operating systems. Even on the
same computer, there are often different methods of running programs in
background or interactively with a terminal.

The Jol Universal Command Language obviates most of the problems.
Jol is not a new or different Operating System - it interfaces with
the computer's own efficient Operating System to provide a Universal
Interface, transportability and ease of use. People can now approach any
computer containing Jol and launch applications, copy files and do any
normal computer operation in the same way on all computers either though
menus or, for the experienced user, a command line interface. It has a
full script programming language that allows simple tailoring for any
computer environment.

Jol provides modern SAA/CUA Pull Down and Menu Bar Selection in Panels,
even on IBM 3270 terminals.

Most importantly, the same instructions and user-friendly menus work on
Personal Computers and Mainframes, and included is a set of menus and
panels that suit all classes of machines.

For IBM Mainframe users, "JCL" is simplified enormously, and made
compatible with other operating systems such as MS/DOS and UNIX.

Jol cuts the amount of time spent writing Job Control Language code
("JCL") by about 50% and yet takes 80% less time to train staff in its
use.

Jol is currently available for IBM MVS and Fujitsu MSP Operating Systems,
and IBM Personal Computers running MS/DOS or OS/2. Versions for
other systems can be developed on request.

Major New Releases of the Jol Universal Command Language

CCS-Jol announces new versions of the Jol Universal Command Language these
are available for MS/DOS, OS/2, IBM/MVS and Fujitsu Mainframes.

Major highlights of Jol/UCL are:

* Provides a superb environment for developing Menu driven systems and
providing a simple user-friendly Universal interface to widely differing
program interfaces. Simple user-friendly Universal interfaces (with
HELP Screens) can be provided to any program.

* New users can be productive almost immediately with the Jol Menu
System.

* Provides an easily used and written modern SAA/CUA Pull Down and
modern Bar Selection in Panels, even on 3270 Terminals.

* Includes a set of menus and panels that suit all classes of
machines. Tailoring, alterations and additions to Menus and Popups
can be made quickly and efficiently with any standard editor.

* Allows users to run in Menu Mode or experienced users can use the fast
English-like Command Mode.

* The same instructions and user-friendly menus work on Personal
Computers and IBM Mainframes.

* Contains a Job Networking and Scheduling System. The Scheduling
system starts work on certain days; the Networking Systems allows jobs or
tasks to run in parallel or serial.

* Contains a full script programming language which can perform
arithmetic and character operations on "symbolic" or "environment"
variables. These can be saved in files, restored and passed from job to
job thus providing a powerful communications ability.

* Has a very powerful Macro Facility, thus allowing new instructions to be
added to suit any installation, or the Jol commands can be tailored to
suit individual mainframe or work station environments.

* Solves most of the problems of moving from one Operating System to
another. Conversion from one system to another can be achieved for a
fraction of the time and cost. Jol procedures or scripts are
transportable from machine to machine.

* Can generate JCL for IBM and Fujitsu Mainframes.

For Mainframe Users:

For IBM MVS and Fujitsu Mainframe Users, Jol makes mainframes as easy to
use as Personal Computers. In addition to the above, it:

* Can store data set attributes or DD card details in a centrally
administered Data Base. This has the added advantage that the Data
Administrator has control over where data sets are to be placed. VSAM
and ordinary data sets are automatically created when necessary.

* The Mainframe versions can either generate JCL or use "Dynamic
Allocation", which means that work can be run at the terminal under
TSO, or in background using exactly the same instructions.

* Cuts the amount of time spent writing Job Control Language code
("JCL") by about 50% and yet takes 80% less time to train staff in its
use. This frees highly specialised computer people to perform more
productive and cost effective tasks, or to devote time to make much
more foolproof and friendly systems.

* Thoroughly checks jobs before allowing them to start running, thus
vastly reducing time lost due to job reruns caused by JCL errors.

* Provides a much easier and comprehensive Command Language instead of
JCL.

Summary:

Jol has been in use by some of the largest companies in the world for many
years, providing far better error recovery procedures for their jobs,
better control and easier coding. Jol is like gold in their hands.
