Learn Japanese on your Multimedia PC

October 10, 1992 -- Knox Computer Systems, Inc. (Knox) of San Diego, CA has
just announced the release of Fundamental Japanese, a multimedia,
interactive, CD-ROM software application for IBM compatible PCs that
teaches the Japanese language. Fundamental Japanese is a high end
education product that combines the use of high quality sound, animation,
and graphics to teach the Japanese language. Fundamental Japanese is
targeted for both students and business people, is positioned at the high
end of the language education market and covers Japanese speaking,
hearing, reading and writing.

According to John Riley, Vice President of Knox, "No other Japanese
language education product offers as much educational content as
Fundamental Japanese. There are many flash card products on the market,
but no other program approaches Fundamental Japanese in combining all
aspects of multimedia such as sound, voice input, animation and graphics.
In addition, the lessons are very detailed oriented and will give the
customer and solid overview of the basics of the Japanese language."

Fundamental Japanese includes three lessons, each on its own CD-ROM disc.
Lesson #1 covers Hiragana, Katakana and basic vocabulary. Lesson #2 covers
numbers, telling time, calendars and counting things. Lesson #3 covers
basic conversations and common phrases. Each disc contains a robust set of
lessons and quizzes. Three new lessons are under development and will be
offered in the future as an upgrade to the product.

Fundamental Japanese sells for $595 and requires DOS/V (version 4.0 and
up), a CD-ROM drive and multimedia speakers. A microphone and Sound
Blaster card are optional for voice input. DOS/V is a product made by IBM
Japan and is a superset of MS-DOS that offers both Japanese and English
fonts.
