NEC STRENGTHENS MULTISYNC FG MONITOR LINE WITH THREE NEW MAINSTREAM
MONITORS

NEC Moves To Provide End Users With More MultiSync Quality for Less

Wood Dale, Ill., April 5, 1993--NEC Technologies, Inc. creates a new
standard in the computer monitor market today by introducing the MultiSync
FGe Series, designed to optimize display performance in mainstream
windowing environments by increasing refresh rates and widening the scan
range at a lower cost to users. The bold move by NEC represents its
commitment to satisfy growing demand from mainstream users who require
larger active display areas in GUI-oriented applications.

NEC will divide its breakthrough MultiSync FG product line into two
segments to provide better targeted products at a higher value. The new
MultiSync FGe Series is optimized for the mainstream market while the
larger, more advanced MultiSync 5FG and 6FG will remain targeted toward
professional applications.

NEC has created the attractively-priced MultiSync 5FGe 17-inch monitor to
address the rapidly expanding number of mainstream monitor users who are
moving to the 17-inch arena. The MultiSync 5FGe is specifically designed
for graphical user interface environments, maintains MultiSync quality and
reliability and features Dual Dynamic Beam Focus (DDBF). By dynamically
focusing the electron guns in both the horizontal and vertical axis, DDBF
provides a sharp, crisp, consistent image across the display and in the
corners. This feature is crucial in providing the largest, usable display
area for large-screen applications.

In addition, the MultiSync 3FGe and MultiSync 4FGe, are enhancements of
NEC's award-winning MultiSync 3FGx and MultiSync 4FG 15-inch monitors.

"The 17-inch monitor market is the hottest market today because it allows
the user to display multiple windows with more information," said Jim
Schwabe, vice president of NEC's Graphics Marketing Group. "As more end
users make the transition to larger-screen displays, they want to buy our
MultiSync monitors because they are easier to look at, more comfortable to
use and they let the user run applications more efficiently."

Optimized For The Mainstream Marketplace...

NEC embraces mainstream users by offering the most extensive multi-platform
compatibility in a display and the FGe Series enhanced features at a lower
cost. The MultiSync FGe Series demonstrates NEC's commitment to the
mainstream marketplace by enhancing its versatile multiple-frequency FG
Series with higher refresh rates, increasing scanning capabilities and
adding an extensive three-year warranty.

"NEC is essentially enacting an approximate $50 million price reduction on
MultiSync FGe monitors by lowering the end user cost between $50 and $200
each and adding another year on to the warranty," said Schwabe. "That
price break enables more end users to buy a quality MultiSync monitor and
keeps us one-step ahead of our competitors who have consistently cloned
many features NEC invented in the original MultiSync FG series, such as
bezel-to-bezel images with FullScan display and on-screen color control
with the AccuColor Control System.

"The FGe series also addresses markets such as SoHo (small office/home
office) and Fortune 1000 users who want an NEC MultiSync monitor at home,"
said Schwabe.

Surpassing the industry standard, NEC increased the vertical refresh to
support up to 76Hz to Provide virtually flicker-free images. The industry
and VESA standard flicker-free image vertical refresh is 70Hz. To
reinforce NEC's multiple-frequency philosophy and increase the FGe Series
capabilities, the new monitors have a wider scan range that includes
compatibility with IBM's new XGA-2 standard.

Once again, NEC goes above and beyond the norm by backing its products with
a three-year warranty on all MultiSync FGe Series monitors. The limited
warranty is representative of the premium components, workmanship, detail
and overall quality that goes into each NEC MultiSync monitor. The
warranty covers labor, parts and display tube for three years. No other
monitor manufacturer offers such a warranty.

Another NEC strength is the multi-platform compatibility. On MS-DOS
platforms, the new monitors are capable of supporting 1024 x 768 at up to
76 Hz, and up to 60 Hz on the 3FGe. On Macintosh platforms, the 3FGe
supports multiple resolutions including 640 x 480 at 67Hz and 832 x 624 at
75 Hz. In addition to supporting Apple's 13- and 16-inch resolutions, the
4FGe and 5FGe will also support the Apple 19-inch resolution of 1024 x 768
at 75Hz.

This added compatibility allows the monitor to take advantage of graphics
boards that offer higher resolutions at higher refresh rates. The
integration of all the FGe Series features, such as high vertical refresh,
provides users with maximum protection of their hardware investment.

NEC ErgoDesign For Maximum Productivity

The new MultiSync FGe Series of monitors continues to offer users the best
performance and highest quality images possible in today's market. The FGe
Series offers many of the same technologically advanced features in the
revolutionary FG Series, such as FullScan, Dual Dynamic Beam Focus (5FGe),
the Invar Shadow Mask and the AccuColor Control System (4FGe).

Like the original FG Series, which has earned more than 30 prestigious
industry awards, the MultiSync 3FGe, 4FGe and 5FGe feature FullScan
capability which enables the user to display bezel-to-bezel images,
increasing the active display area to one of the largest in the industry.
NEC's Invar Shadow Mask improves contrast and makes each monitor up to 20
percent brighter than conventional CRT's without sacrificing focus
quality.

Additional features in the FGe Series that sharpen focus are the
flatter-square technology and the polished CRT. The MPR II low magnetic
field monitors comply with strict Swedish emission regulations to offer
the most comfortable computing environment possible.

NEC's trend-setting AccuColor Control System is featured in the MultiSync
4FGe. AccuColor allows the user to adjust on-screen colors to best suit
their needs and preference.

Another feature that gives users greater control of their computing
environment is the OCLI-coated NEC MultiSync Monitor Lens. The MultiSync
Monitor Lens is designed for improved viewing in ambient lighting
conditions and complements the MultiSync FGe color monitors by increasing
the images' contrast while decreasing glare. OCLI-coated screens are
believed to help prevent computer vision syndrome, or CVS.

Two versions of the MultiSync Monitor Lens are available--standard tint
lenses, made for GUI environments, increase contrast and reduce glare.
Dark tint lenses provide maximum contrast in areas where the user works
near a window or under bright fluorescent lighting.

Powerful Solution for Macintosh Computers

Since the introduction of the original MultiSync FG monitors in October,
1991, NEC increased its Macintosh marketshare significantly. With today's
announcement, NEC hopes to build upon this momentum and further satisfy
Mac users with the high-performance, low-cost MultiSync/MacFG Solution.

The low-cost solution consists of one of the three new FGe Series monitors
and NEC's recently introduced MacFG 24Xp interface card. The MacFG 24Xp
interface card provides optimized timings for NEC's FG and FGe Series of
monitors and are designed to allow Macintosh users to switch resolutions
on-the-fly with NEC MultiSync monitors and take advantage of 24-bit true
color support.

All MultiSync FGe monitors support the Macintosh II family, Centris series,
Quadra series, LC series, Performa 400, 600 and 600CD, Powerbook 160, 165C
and 180, and Powerbook Duo's Mini Dock and Duo Dock.

"NEC is focusing heavily on making its MultiSync products ideal for
graphical user interface environments--which was pioneered by Macintosh
users," said Tom Grau, marketing manager for NEC's Graphics Macintosh
Marketing Group. "The FG monitor series was optimized for graphical user
interface environments--it's no wonder our MultiSync monitors have been
such a success in the Mac market."

MultiSync Professional Series

NEC's popular high-end 17-inch MultiSync 5FG and 21-inch 6FG color monitors
make up the Professional Series of the MultiSync monitor line. An integral
part of NEC's MultiSync line, the 5FG and 6FG are geared toward advanced
graphics markets such as color DTP, imaging and CAD/CAM, due to their
large screen size and advanced features such as AccuColor and higher
resolutions. A MultiSync 5FG or 6FG purchased on or after April S will
have a three-year warranty.

Pricing and Availability

The MultiSync 5FGe is currently available through NEC's nationwide network
of authorized resellers. The MultiSync 3FGe and 4FGe will be shipping in
volume by the end of April.

To better reflect the price end users will pay for MultiSync monitors, NEC
has replaced suggested retail prices with estimated selling prices. The
estimated selling prices of the entire MultiSync monitor line are:
